Herman Miller, Inc., Named to Business Ethics Magazine's "100 Best Corporate Citizens" List for 2006

In Business Ethics magazine's seventh annual survey of corporate social responsibility demonstrated by major U.S. businesses, Herman Miller is ranked No. 22 on the publication's list of "100 Best Corporate Citizens." The ranking, released on April 27, is published in the Spring 2006 issue of the magazine.

Herman Miller once again is the only company in its industry to appear on the "100 Best" listing, and is among only 16 companies to have been included on the "100 Best" list each of the seven years the survey has been published. It's also the highest-ranked Michigan company, joining Whirlpool (No. 49) and Kellogg (No. 55) on this year's list.

The survey, which rates qualifying companies on several measures of corporate governance, business performance and socially responsible practices, gave particularly high marks to Herman Miller for its environmental leadership and sustainable business practices, its commitment to inclusiveness and diversity and its products.

The universe of companies considered for the list encompasses U.S. firms in the Russell 1000, the S&P 500, and the Domini Social Index. These firms are ranked on service in eight stakeholder categories: shareholders, community, governance, diversity, employees, environment, human rights, and product. The "100 Best" list puts a numerical rating on service to these various stakeholders. It uses data from Socrates, the online social research database created by KLD Research & Analytics in Boston, an independent research firm serving investment management professionals.

Founded in 1987, Business Ethics magazine is the only U.S.-based business magazine focusing on ethics and corporate social responsibility.

Herman Miller, Inc., Named to Diversity Inc Magazine Top Ten List

Herman Miller's strong program in supplier diversity has drawn recognition from Diversity Inc magazine. The company was named one of the Top 10 Corporations for Supplier Diversity, joining other recognized corporations such as Sempra Energy, AT&T, J.P. Morgan Chase and Hewlett-Packard.

Diversity Inc also hailed Herman Miller in a separate listing of 25 Noteworthy Companies, which measures a company's overall diversity record in four key areas--CEO commitment, human capital, corporate communications and supplier diversity. Herman Miller is the only company in its industry to appear on any of the Diversity Inc lists.

"Our commitment to building an inclusive corporate community is a long and continuing journey that began with our founder, D.J. De Pree. D.J. recognized every person had unique gifts and talents and established a culture that values and encourages bringing the whole person to the workplace," noted Michael Ramirez, Director of Inclusiveness and Corporate Diversity at Herman Miller. "The recognition from Diversity Inc validates that commitment and demonstrates we continue to make strides. Herman Miller is a place where each person can be exceptional. It also shows that a strong commitment to inclusiveness and diversity is both good for people and good for business."

Diversity Inc is a monthly business magazine published by DiversityInc Media LLC, a privately owned company with no outside investors. It has published a Top 50 Companies for Diversity list, along with specialty lists like the Top 10 for Supplier Diversity and 25 Noteworthy Companies, for the past six years. This year, more than 250 companies competed for recognition. The Top 50 list appears in the June issue of Diversity Inc magazine.

Herman Miller helps create great places to work, heal, learn, and live by researching, designing, manufacturing, and distributing innovative interior solutions that support companies, organizations, and individuals all over the world. The company's award-winning products, complemented by furniture-management and strategic consulting services, generated over $1.51 billion in revenue during fiscal 2005. Herman Miller is widely recognized both for its innovative products and business practices. Herman Miller is a recipient of the prestigious National Design Award for product design from the Smithsonian Institution's Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. In 2006, the company was once again cited by Fortune magazine as the "Most Admired" company in its industry and again included in Business Ethics magazine's "100 Best Corporate Citizens." The company trades on the NASDAQ market under the symbol MLHR.
