bfi Furnishes City of Newark, Police Department and OEM New Headquarters

This is a state of the art Law & Public Safety building in the heart of Newark's mostly residential south ward. It houses the police department's south precinct which aims to become more connected to the community via outreach programs and by providing facilities for the residents to use for their programs and organizations. The building is also the new headquarters for the police department and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) with its command and control center. It is the new high-tech central hub for managing the affairs of the city. bfi provided furniture for work stations, conference rooms, private offices, command and control stations, break rooms, paper flow/copy/fax rooms, and lounge areas. The new furniture more than adequately supports all of these functions. The majority of this project was done under the New Jeresey State Contract, allowing the benefit of a bundled price inclusive of all technical work, as well as delivery and installation services.

Nemschoff and Geiger Recognized in Healthcare and Ergonomic/Task Seating Categories; Herman Miller receives OFDA Manufacturer of the Year Gold Award.

Herman Miller, Inc., is celebrating multiple honors this week at the NeoCon 2011 World's Trade Fair in Chicago, June 13-15. NeoCon is North America's largest exhibition of contract furnishings for the design and management of the built environment. The annual gathering of design professionals, corporate end users, and furniture dealers recognized the company in three separate awards including Healthcare furniture.

The annual Best of NeoCon awards for product, juried by interior design and facility management professionals who reviewed almost 350 entries, acknowledged Nemschoff's Oasis Overbed table with the Gold award in the Healthcare Furniture Category, marking the second consecutive year Herman Miller Healthcare received Gold award in a Healthcare category.

Geiger also received a Silver award for their Sotto Executive Chair in the Ergonomic/Task Seating category. Designed by George Simons Jr., Sotto is suited for the management environment that appreciates a quiet design statement.

In addition to product accolades, Herman Miller also received the "2011 Manufacturer of the Year Gold Award," presented by the Office Furniture Dealers Alliance (OFDA). The industry association for independent U.S. and Canadian office furniture dealers annually surveys its membership for their opinions on industry manufacturers. The awards are then presented in conjunction with the NeoCon gathering. This is the fifth time in six years that Herman Miller has received the top prize among major manufacturers.

The best of NeoCon awards, now in their 22nd year, are sponsored and organized by the International Interior Design Association, the International Facility Management Association, Contract magazine, the McMorrow Report, and Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc.

Eames Aluminum Group Recognized with ICFF Editors’ Choice Award

Herman Miller’s Eames Aluminum Group received the Editor’s Choice Award for Best Outdoor Furniture at the 2011 International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) May 15. The four-day event is considered one of the premiere showcases of contemporary and modern design in North America.

“Returning the Eames Aluminum Group to outdoor spaces is a celebration of our heritage that we're excited to share with customers,” said Herman Miller Director of Retail Marg Mojzak. “These new materials, finishes, and hand-crafted industrial workmanship offer beauty and functionality, with the durability and performance of timeless design. This award is proof we are delivering on that promise.” Sixteen awards were given to the 590 exhibitors and were selected by a panel of design editors that included Anniina Koivu of Abitare, Sam Grawe of Dwell, Annie Block of Interior Design, Nadia Lionello of Interni, Bénédicte Duhalde of Intramuros, and Paul J. Makovsky of Metropolis.

First introduced by Herman Miller in 1958, the Eames Aluminum Group was designed by Charles and Ray Eames, and originally promoted as the “leisure group” or “indooroutdoor group.” Though intended for outdoor use, it wasn’t long before the collection of iconic seating moved inside exclusively, perhaps due to its lithe form. Today, Herman Miller has returned the Aluminum Group to its original outdoor intent. The 53 year old design is in the permanent collections of numerous design museums worldwide.

This 16th floor location with fantastic panoramic views houses a unique client business unit that imagines, designs, creates, photographs and helps market new an innovative clothing designs from the rough concept stage through mock up and photography.

Storing a wide array of unusual garments and fashion accessories and proprietary concepts in a safe, yet assessable and organized manner behind sliding glass partitions was key in the minds of the in-house Polo Design and Facilities group during this upgrade project.

Having the ability for employees to seamlessly collaborate within the office, discussing ideas and trends as well as the capacity to comfortably dialogue with other Polo-Ralph Lauren business units throughout the world was vital within the conference room environment.

You may not be familiar with the name Pinnacle Foods but you certainly know the brands they own; Aunt Jemima, Birds Eye, Duncan Hines, Hungry-Man, Log Cabin, Mrs. Paul's, Swanson, and Vlasic just to name a few.

bfi worked with Gensler Architectural to assist Pinnacle Foods in moving to their new corporate office in Cherry Hill, NJ. We provided relocation services and new office furniture.

bfi was chosen due to their reputation and Herman Miller brand furniture that they represent. The move was completed on July 23, 2010.

bfi Relocates Essex County Prosecutor’s office in Newark NJ

bfi recently relocated the furniture and contents from Newark’s Essex County Prosecutor’s central office to two new locations. bfi created a drawing showing the furniture in it's new home with the mission to re-use as much as possible (to save dollars) while still making the space functional. bfi ordered some new furniture to go along with the mostly existing furniture to make it work. bfi was also responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the product and making it look as close to brand new as possible.

Essex County wanted a company that had proven strategic partners and one that had the on staff capability to project manage these sub contractors (i.e..moving company, cleaning company, furniture rehab company). In addition, they wanted a company that had proven they could handle a project of this level of complexity. The move was completed in April of 2010.

bfi was chosen to furnish the Municipal offices, Police department and all miscellaneous areas, in the newly constructed Township of Livingston Municipal Complex located on South Livingston Avenue. We designed the furniture layout and developed the color scheme for all furniture in conjunction with the client's architectural finishes. Practically all of the furniture was purchased via the NJ State Contracts.

The project began in January 2010 and the furniture installation is almost completed. Once the construction is completed bfi can complete the furniture installation.

bfi Furnishes Municipal Building for Borough of Edgewater

The new municipal building in Edgwater is going to look terrific, thanks to the efforts of bfi and the architectural firm, Arcari & Lovino of Little Ferry. bfi partnered with Arcari & Lovino to design and furnish the interior of the 25,500 sq. ft. building. The Borough of Edgewater purchased the furniture from bfi through the NJ State Contract. This enabled them to obtain new furniture within their budget, but also take advantage of the fact that the design and planning was included in the sale of the furniture. This project has been four years in the planning, and is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2010.

DCH BMW of Bloomfield and Freehold has acquired the services of bfi for the ground up renovations of their two facilities. The Bloomfield facility is slated to be completed by the end of July, while the Freehold dealership has a December completion goal. bfi was awarded the projects based on its professional reputation and experience in furnishing Automotive Dealerships. DCH BMW has chosen to furnish its two dealerships with Herman Miller furniture products.

Herman Miller Awarded Multiple IDEA Gold, Silver, and Bronze for its Ardea® and Twist™ lights

The Ardea light has earned both Gold and Silver honors from the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), while the Twist LED task light earned dual Bronze awards. The products and their respective awards across multiple categories secured a place for Herman Miller among the top corporate winners for 2010 and also for the past five years, with 8 awards in total during the period.

2010 marks the 30th year of the annual design competition, which recognizes design excellence in products, ecodesign, research, strategy, packaging, interactive design, and concepts. The IDEA awards are sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America and held in collaboration with the Henry Ford Museum and media sponsor Fast Company Magazine. Herman Miller’s Ardea and Twist lights were selected among 1900 product entries from 29 countries.

Designed by Yves Behar and fuseproject, Ardea took top honors in the Ecodesign and Home Living categories. Its elegant design, inspired by the long, slender, and flexible necks of great herons, is also highly functional: Users can infinitely direct illumination. Juror Mieko Kusano of Sonos, Inc., summarizes Ardea’s impression on jurors: “Organic form inspired by nature and design to have minimal impact on nature through high efficiency lighting and green design.”
